Building Strength, Mobility, and Confidence at The Markham Gym

Having become a new personal trainer at The Markham Gym, I have been able to gather a lot of knowledge training my particular client weekly. We follow a very clear program which is aimed at developing my client’s strength, improving mobility, and some focus on fat loss. Here is what we do each time we train together and why it works.
First of all, in the Markham gym, we always begin our session with a methodical warm-up routine that has been recommended by the Markham gym therapists. This stage involves some dynamic stretches which prepares our body for the coming exercises. Proper warm-ups are essential because they help to avoid injuries and make our sessions more productive.
After the dynamic mobility, we perform Pelvic Floor exercises and the McGill Three core routine to activate our muscles and prime our nervous system to better handle the weight training coming up. Our physiotherapist at The Markham gym discussed the purpose of these activations is to “turn on“ the core and pelvic floor muscles, which increases strength and protects our vulnerable areas during training like the spine. These activations lay down a proper foundation before performing other types of weight lifting exercises such as squats/deadlifts which load the spine and joints of the body.
When we first started here at the Markham gym, we worked out using whole-body or “full-body“ routines. They were helpful in understanding and performing various exercises. A few weeks later, we split our workouts into upper and lower body days to give more attention to detail. We use these workouts to help develop the finer muscles like rotator cuffs and hips for example.
During the more recent days of our training journey, we have moved on to HIIT based exercises which means high-intensity interval training, and it burns more calories in less time and helps to lose weight faster. My client has been trying her best in the workouts and has already made some changes in her health. She is more energetic and much stronger now.
On top of that, after each session, we go through a circuit of exercises. It includes quick and easy exercises which raises the heart rate and burns calories, allowing my client to end the session in high spirits and be proud of her efforts.
Once our session is done, I ask my client to get cooled down and get some steps in on the cardio machines. So we walk for 15 minutes on the treadmill at an incline or use the stair master machine. This way, we will burn even more fat, improve recovery for the next session by lactic acid and increase endurance too. Our chiropractor here at the Markham gym loves that we include cool downs and stretches at the end of the sessions because it’s necessary for better quality healing.
As for my client, she continues to perform great. Every time she comes prepared and motivated. She gets more confident with each passing day because now she understands movements better, is becoming stronger, and notices some results from the sessions already in just a few short weeks.
